Each Day is a New Step for Equal Rights - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 8th of March
Why do women have an International Day? Many people wonder. The 8th of March is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world through History. In some countries women already achieved equality but in many others' there’s still a long path to celebrate global gender parity. So, this day is not only a day to celebrate but also to remind us that there is a lot of work to do.
It all began in 1909, in New York, by Socialist Party of America as a suggestion of Theresa Malkiel, a labor activist who was the first woman to rise from factory work to leadership in the Socialist Party. This action inspired women in Europe to follow the path of the American Socialists and in 1911 was marked the first International Women’s Day.
This year, the committee suggests us all to “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate For Change” since we all, men and women, should innovate, build and think equally to create a world where no one is left behind, where everybody has equal opportunities.
“begins with making sure that women’s and girls' needs and experiences are integrated at the very inception of technology and innovations. It means building smart solutions that go beyond acknowledging the gender gaps to addressing the needs of men and women equally. And ultimately, it needs innovations that disrupt business as usual, paying attention to how and by whom technology is used and accessed, and ensuring that women and girls play a decisive role in emerging industries.”
Each year that passes by it’s possible to see an arising of people's awareness of the need for equal rights and work opportunities. It is possible to see, all over the world, women fighting for free will, access to education, the end of domestic abuse, and so on.
We believe that in a near future the world will see men and women feeling comfortable in their own skin, in their own gender, happy with what they achieved together and think - This is not a men’s world. This is not a women’s world. This is everybody’s world.
